The Case for Reparations

2/4) The housing in Chicago was very different for African American and Whites. Whites lived in affluent neighborhoods while African American lives in the slums paying outrages prices to live in homes that they did not even own. The Buyer’s League was seeking reparation for the many white relators cheating them. The relators would make African American pay twice as much to just rent a house. they [relators] would make the African American people pay so much pocketing the rest for themselves. then if the African American people would want to press charges the relators would push them to lawyers then knew who wold loose on purpose. yes it does seem reasonable for them to want reparation. they were cheated out of their money, making them look stupid. it makes entire sense that they would want the wrong doing corrected or acknowledge. parts of the passage talks about African American being a contagious disses that their poor characteristics could be passed on to the richer folk. While purchasing a house many people would cheat Blacks illegally and legally out of their money. Considering what Whites were doing to Blacks that they create the Buyer’s League in 1968 just goes to show how badly and unfairly they were treated.

3/4) White folk lived in nice, affluent neighborhoods but while Blacks live in so called slums. over the years Whites would move up the ranks possibly living in better areas while African American always stayed the same, living I the slums hardly climbing the social ladder but they would eventually fall back down. African Americans will always have handicaps wether it is wealth or where they live or work or drive. The best quote is talking about how a person may see poverty but not directed towards one community but the person living in poverty see that it is focused on a community, basically based on a persons skin tone.

5) The reasoning why the HR 40 bill has not been past is because people do not see the reason to look into that situation because the “House floor suggests our concerns are rooted not in the impartiality of reparations but in something more existential”. people found that the HR 40 is not important and looking into the situations is not for reparation ideals but another hidden agenda.

6) slavery connects to freedom and democracy by what people who were under slavery wanted. slaves were property, not seen as another human being. they were sold like cattle and kept on ships for transportation worst then cattle. the main thing slaves wanted when slavery was around was their freedom. freedom is the central idea of slaves. democracy was one way slaves could have their freedom back. democracy was not ruled by a central person or idea. It allows many ideas, that wanted slaves to have their freedom from slave owners and any one else wishing to segregate, discriminate, and do harm to them.
